Well... Our president tried it, didn't he?!
After just one month on having the alcohol ban lifted. SA is now back to square 1. Yes, 1 being sober and not buying alcohol. South Africa is currently under lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and some of the regulations mean that certain industries cannot operate. One of them being the alcohol industry, this is to make sure that fewer accidents happen, to relieve the pressure of the hospital systems. Annoying I know, but we are living through unprecedented times that need us to be safe but also agile.
This means we cannot proceed with our gin collection as planned...(IT PAINS ME!)..but, we have a new series to kick off our Gin Gourney! (see what I did there...Journey with a G )😉 🤣 !
Introducing GIN SPIRIT - #TheSoberEdition
The SoberEdition will be looking at the Gins that I would've probably left till the end..but maybe we must start with them, "Non- Alcoholic Gins"..Hold on a sec, You did know that you can get non-alcoholic Gin right?! Brands such as Ginifer, Abstinence, and Vergin just to name a few have catered to the market that would love the gin but without the alcohol.
In South Africa, products with less than 0.5% of alcohol are officially classified as alcohol-free in the Liquor Products Act. This also includes beer, wine, etc. With the lockdown in place, it seems like all the months have become Ocsober! LMAO.. sad..but we move.
According to RecoveryDirect, the rapidly growing sober options market has been identified by many alcohol brands and the introduction of new alcohol-free products appeals to a far wider audience than one might expect. This includes:
People in recovery
People that want to moderate their usage
People that don’t like alcohol
People that don’t drink alcohol for religious reasons
Promoting “mindful non-alcoholic drinks” may very well be a positive step toward dismantling the social pressures surrounding alcohol consumption inside South Africa’s prominent “drinking culture”.
It can't be all doom and gloom. I mean, the plus side is that you can drink as much as you like! and not get drunk 🙃 (Listen, this is a first for me too..Lol)
So join me as we review and collect non-alcoholic gins. I am out hunting for our finest Proudly SA non-alcoholic Gin bottles as we speak! In the meantime, I found a video on a UK non-alcoholic gin called Seedlip, could this be a new trend in the world?!
First bottle coming soon, Cheers!
Remember, we promote responsible drinking.
